SEDATION WITH NITROUS OXIDE TO RELIEVE DENTAL ANXIETY
Do you ever feel nervous about visiting the dentist? Does your upcoming treatment make you feel anxious? If so, our dentists at Burns Dentistry offer several sedation options at either of our locations in Arizona or Sun City West, Arizona. Nitrous oxide is one of those options for any of our patients who suffer from dental anxiety or dental phobia. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a gas that you inhale through a nose mask during your treatment. As you breathe in the nitrous oxide, which is mixed with oxygen, you will experience a relaxed, euphoric sensation. Nitrous oxide is one option your dentist may offer to help make you more comfortable during certain procedures. It is not intended to put you to sleep. You will be able to respond to any requests or directions your dentist may have during your procedure.
Nitrous oxide sedation is very safe and the effects will wear off within just a few minutes after we remove your nose mask. You will receive oxygen for at least five minutes to avoid a headache. The oxygen purges any remaining as from the lungs while aiding the patient in becoming alert and awake. You can legally and safely drive yourself home after your appointment. Consult with your doctor as to when it is completely safe for you to drive.
Meals are another focus point when receiving nitrous oxide. It's a good idea to eat lightly prior to your procedure and avoid a big meal for three hours afterward.
Be certain to discuss your concerns and your sedation options with our dentists and our dental team before your visit so we can help you feel more comfortable during your treatment. If you have more questions please give us a call to learn more.
