Sedation Dentistry
Dental anxiety is more common than most people admit. It keeps people from getting care they need, sometimes for years. If that's you, you're not alone and there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Sedation is available for any procedure at Burns, from a routine cleaning to a full surgical case. We'll figure out what works best for you before anything begins.

You Have Options
We offer three levels of sedation depending on what the procedure requires and what makes you most comfortable. There's no wrong answer. The goal is that you get the care you need without dreading it.
Nitrous Oxide
You stay fully awake. You just stop caring quite as much. Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask and takes effect within minutes. When the visit is over it clears quickly and patients can drive themselves home.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral medications are provided prior to your appointment. You'll be relaxed, drowsy, and may not remember much of the visit afterward. You'll need a ride home. For patients with moderate to significant anxiety, this is often the right fit.
IV Sedation
Administered directly through an IV, this is the deepest level of sedation we offer. Patients sleep through the procedure entirely and have little to no memory of it afterward. A ride home is required. This option works well for complex cases or patients with significant dental anxiety.

Sedation Is Not Just for Major Procedures
A lot of patients assume sedation is only for surgery or something serious. It's not. If sitting in the chair for a cleaning makes your heart race, sedation is an option for that too. We'd rather you come in comfortable than not come in at all.
